Default Speedometer fail

Just earlier this week, my fuel gauge got stuck at empty. I read a thread on how to fix it and after taking apart the sensor and putting it back together, it seems to be working. However, after driving around and parking the car, my next start revealed my speedometer doesn't work and neither does my rear spoiler. I read that it might be a worn gear or abs sensor failure, but does anyone thing it might be related to the fuel gauge? What should I do first to diagnose and fix the problem?

First thing is to pull the speedo out, take off the connector at the back and then put it back on again - this has happened to me a couple of times due simply to a poor contact with the connector.

clean the contacts on the back with a pencil eraser.
