Default Rear spoiler issues...........

Hi guy's,

I've done a search and it would appear that there are a lot of issues in this dept, although none that are the same of mine.

The last few times I've gone into my garage, the rear spoiler has been raised all on it's own. When i started the car up I lowered the spoiler manually and carried on my journey with it rising and falling as it should. Then last night I went through the same process, and after joining the highway and getting above 50mph, the (!) light came on, along with the rear spoiler light. Now, I can cancelled the (!) light but the spoiler light stayed on, with no movement at all from the rear. When I stopped for traffic lights, and accelerated over 50mph the (!) came back on again...........

So, I guess that the speed sensor is fine and that there's an issue with the spoiler getting a signal. Why then does it raise on it's own with the engine stopped? Maybe I've blown a fuse now and thats why it won't raise manually now......... I'm confussed.....

Can anyone give me any advice please?

Cheers,

Mark '90 C2

Hi

Glad to see someone else on the sunny side of the UK

I had an issue with my spoiler not raising and it was due to the speedo not working as this is the part that gives the signal on later models (but this i understand was a change on 91 model year). I would methodically go through the wiring to see if you have a bad contact (far easier said than done though).

On a positive note its good to see the alarm indicating the spoiler isn't raise to stop you going to fast and creating too much rear end lift.

Unkle,

As an experiment, I took it up well above the legal 70mph limit last night on the motorway, and there was no noticable change to the handling of the car.......

I'm a bit rubbish when it comes to tracing electrical faults. I do have a multimeter, but owning and being able to know what to do with the thing are totally different!

I would be a little careful with the speed, i don't think Porsche designed the spoiler for fun. It won't create actual downward pressure (as its not a wing) but stalls/spoils the air to reduce a low pressure area at the back i understand. Just don't try to induce lift off oversteer at speed .

I am also a basic multimeter person. But if you do a Google search for multimeter instructions you do get some useful guides and YT videos

Have to start a new threat 'Real men drive 964's with broken rear spoilers' for some proper lift off oversteer action on utube.

Mark where are you in Essex? I'm just outside Harlow if you want to come over I'll give you a hand. I've got a meter and I know how to use it (Electronics Engineer)

I'm in Brentwood, so only 30 minutes away. That'd be excellent if you could help, let me know where and when and I'll be over to you.

Cheers,

Mark.

There are also a couple of us in Colchester who are pretty handy with the workings of 964's. However, I'm not around to help until early September but Kevin may be.

...the spoiler also affects engine cooling at speeds above 50mph.
