A BatteryTender comes with a nice pair of alligator clips and an SAE connector, just long enough to connect to the battery and lead out the 'hood'. Then you merely shift the 'Tender from one of your motorcycles to the car every now & then ... or leave it on when the car's gonna be unused for a while. Battery Tenders keep a float charge that does NOT harm your battery.

Default Yes, Kevin had a good thought,

I thought the change in the rear spoiler might have been the culprit. But the service records show that this has been a problem since 1993, and spoiler was not retrofitted until almost 10 years later.

We have found the solution, and so far, no one is close. Anyone care to continue guessing? My wrench said he had never seen this one. Maybe it will help someone else...

BTW, Kev, that is one nice looking 996. Where would one find such a nice car?

Has there been any changes/replacement to the stereo head unit? If so, research the infamous green wire battery drain issue.

Don't feel bad; I talked with him on the phone yesterday afternoon and he didn't tell me that the drain had been identified.

i have the same problem, think i wil have to get the auto electrician to see what he can find. Even with a trickle charge it was dead today.

Are there any issues with disconnecting the negative lead on the battery to make sure i have battery life when needed?

Me too - did you disconnect both battery leads when fitting the trickle charger? I think I might try one before getting into anything more complicated.

No left both leads connected, but now thinking that I wont even use the trickle charge, i may just disconnect the negative lead until I can get an auto electrician to look at it.
