Default UK Second Hand Prices

Just a question if anyone has an idea of prices of 964s in the UK?

Checking through the various adverts the prices seem all over the show.

I tried Glass but that dosent seem correct. The prices they gave are;

(This is based on a 1993 Carrera 4)

Trade in - excellent: £ 7,221.00
Trade in - average: £ 6,230.00
Dealer Retail price £ 9,890.00
Private Sale price: £ 9,740.00

Im considering selling mine, and originally I was thinking around £11-12k (Mine is not Mint, but not an old dog), but after seeing these prices in Glass and prices all over the show in adverts I have no idea.

Does my price seem reasonable?

I think once a car goes beyond 8 or 9 years old that those guide values go out of the window, especially where sports/classic/exotica are concerned.

The small pool of 964 buyers are looking to buy based on condition and history. Well I would hope so....

Your very true, the prices of 964s are all over the show at the minute! Its seasonal, as its all about the availability, one moment the stock may be scarce in one month and the prices are higher, then theres times when theres so many 964s in the market, prices come down if not take a lot longer to sell.

As redcoat said, it depends on condition as super clean, low miles well maintained cars always demand higher prices. The average to good ones take a little longer to sell, as there are so many in this condition.

I think for 'good to average' the price would be reasonable.

Goodluck!

I don't know your mileage, inside spec/colour or state of the history (especially regarding engine and suspension) but I would say you're giving it away at that price.

p.s. Glass guide is useless for these cars

As Steve says, that sounds mighty cheap. I'd aim higher, dont sell yourself or the car short! Can you give an idea on the spec your 964 has?

A good place to check out the competition on 964s for sale is the Pistonheads classifieds

I have a C4 1993 just had it valued for insurance at £14,000

Look on Piston heads and try to find a 1993 for under £14,000 in good condition (not spotless) i think you will have trouble.

Thanks Guys, I am going to check out pistonheads as I have never really been on there.

Im only at the thinking of selling stage at present.

Mechanically its all fine, 3 owners from new, large bill of receipts, Just passed MOT etc, Its got a few scuffs on the bumper, rear lights faded, that kind of thing, and it has been lowered 40mm, thats why I wouldnt say it was mint. (and its now at 103k on the clock). I am going to get the wheels re-painted as they are starting to flake.

I think when the times right, I will put her on the market and see what intrest she gets, I suppose because I am not in a rush or desperate to sell I can hold out.

I just didnt want to sell my self short or over price.

a reasonably good 964 like yours sounds has got to be a great buy at say £12k . i think in a few years the price will be higher ; they are not so different from an RS at circa £60k these days ?

Those Glass prices are way way below par!

11-12k still sounds cheap.

I bought my 90 C2 Targa with the odd job needing to be done (inc targa recover :S) at 12k a year ago with 89k and FSH with every receipt to date.

I've spent a bit more since, but it will see the car through a fair few more years whilst I can continue to enjoy it and hopefully the prices will rise.

Incidentally I was bored one lunch time and did a webuyanycar valuation and they offered me 6k... it cheered me up no end

This is a very timely post from my perspective.
There does seems to be a spread between £11K and £16K for what I would call reasonable cars. (i.e. not rusty/leaky sheds or immaculate garage queens)

I'm selling currently and have placed mine in the middle of that range. It does appear very difficult to judge. I've been offered trade in prices of £9K (dealer already can't shift a couple of 964's - so no thanks) and £12K. (which I thought was reasonable, but only against 3.6 996's for about twice that price)

From a private sale perspective there is people asking and looking but it can be tedious when you realise they are not seriously considering.

There is plenty of advice about sticking it out and waiting for the right time / buyer. Difficult when your'e itching for something else.

So if anyone's after a decent 1990 C2 targa - let me know.

Edit: I have no idea who is buying the cars for sale at £20K+. But as said in an earlier post there is a certain investment potential on the horizon.

C2 manuals are especially desirable as a cheap alternative to an RS - hence their prices seem to be edging upwards. The silver car that JZM sold a month or so back was £23k, but had a fair few desirable mods.

I bought my '90 C2 Tip about 4 months ago for £10.5k. Its a high mileage car but has had a recent engine rebuild and runs beautifully, no sign of an oil leak anywhere, full Porsche service history, new leather seats and good condition bodywork. Only snags - needs new tyres and there's one or two small electrical niggles.

So, I think if your 964 is excellent, hang on to it and sooner or later someone will want a good one at a fair price - but there's just not that many 964 buyers around. They are a bit of a commitment to take on, financially and, dare I say it, emotionally. Great though!
