Default Distributor Vent Fix?

So I've owned my 964 (4th Porsche) for close to 6 mos., fixing up some minor items (ashtray, door stay, speakers, hood struts), but now I've gotten around to the engine compartment and while trying to sort out some screeching from the heater blower motor, I noticed that the distributor vent kit had only been half done. They actually popped off the "plate" on the distributor and fitted the distributor ventilation connector, but never bothered drilling the hole in the "downpipe" from the heater blower motor nor connecting the hose, so it's vented, but it vents directly into the engine bay. Any thoughts on whether or not to leave it in this condition? And if a fix is suggested, where's the best place pricewise to get the remaining necessary bits?

I know that Steve Weiner LINK rebuilds distributors, I would think he also has access to the parts you may need.

Just buy a plastic T-fitting and connect it to the hose that is used for the tail light vent. Might cost you $2.00 max and 5 min of your time.

Love this place! Thanks for the tip Cosmos99. Home Depot plumbing aisle for the fitting and hose?

You could just get the kit from Porsche - few $s and exactly the bits that you need. Don't buy on Ebay, as they are regularly listed at 3 times the dealer price.

Default T fitting is cleanest installation

Agreed that the T fitting tied into the existing rear tailight ventilation hose is the purest approach. I bought a black T fitting at NAPA Auto Parts for about $2. Worked perfectly. A 5 mnute task. No need to drill holes.

Jon, sounds like you only have half the ventilation kit. Save yourself a lot of time and aggravation and spend a mere $13.50 and buy a complete Porsche kit from Pelican.

Default No kit required

No kit required if you apply the T fitting. Just tie into the tailight vent set up. Measure the existing hose, cut where required, fit T fitting, reconnect as three sections of hose.
