Default Track Day Insurance questions.

Singapore's building a new track, up to F3 standards as our F1 circuit is run on public roads.

For you track day specialists, would like to know the approach in your individual countries. If you think that it could compromise your position, please don't respond

1. Does a track day compromise a life insurance policy? I understand that policies are individually crafted, but as a track day is not "racing", which is usually excluded (like sky-diving and motocycling), are there issues?

2. Is track day insurance comprehensive, or 3rd party only? i.e. If you crash into someone else, the insurance pays for the other car, but not your own.

3. Will tracking the car void (as opposed to merely not apply to) existing car insurance?

Here are my experiences (in the UK) regarding your questions:

1. Difficult to answer - although there is nothing in my life insurance policies that exclude me from driving around a race track, I hope I never get to test the policies!

2. My specific trackday insurance only covers damage to my own car and is subject to a 10% excess. Damage to another car is the responsibility of the owner.

3. My normal insurance for the road is not voided by going on track - I just can't claim on it for any damage caused on track.

When going on track we have to sign a form to indemnify the race track and the organisers running the day against making any loss claim against them.

Thanks Steve. We gotta lobby some insurance companies to provide track day insurance.

No insurance expert, but I believe in the U.S. you only run into life insurance (exclusion) issues on the track if you are racing professionally. And those who do are probably fully aware of what they need to do.

Reviving this old thread. I’d like to take my car to Mosport for a DE event in a month. Haggarty has told me no coverage on track even if it’s driving training.

Who do people get track day insurance from?

I’ve only used the first two. It was about $350 for 60k of coverage a weekend.

Like Steve says above really. My normal classic car cover does cover x days of club organised track days but imagine the detail excludes full and proper damage self-claims. As far as life insurance goes here we declare any 'dangerous sport' activities. For me that meant declaring I was a PADI scuba instructor then the premium jumps up a bit. However, for the odd occasional track day you may be fine, but may be best to check in with them (you know what insurance companies are like - any sniff of a claim rejection and they're there!

HTH
