Default Durametric Adapter Cable (Round)

Does anyone know where I can buy the parts to make an adapter cable that goes from the rectangular connector on the Durametric cable and the round plug?

Or, have one for sale?

Thanks!

That would be the adapter on the lower right of this pic? OBDII female to round 19 pin? Have you called Durametric for availability?

Yes, That is the one. No, I have not contacted DM as I was hoping to make one or buy one used.

I just called them and that adapter is $60 plus shipping. After it's all said and done, after you have sourced the round 19 pin connector, female OBDII connector, shielded wire, you'd be looking at $60 at least. Maybe someone has a used adapter, but it would be sold with the scantool. In any case I have the 19 pin connector available for $25.

Well, I'll take your advice and see if anyone has a used one. If not, I'll fork over the cash. Thanks for the info.

Has anyone changed the female round plug in the car for the female trapezoid? Just a thought.

Another thought - couldn't you just run 5 leads from the durametric to 5 pins stuck in the car port?

The 964 is pre-OBDII.....changing the connector to the trapezoid OBDII would not make the car OBDII.

The lower center cable that is USB to OBDII has circuitry inside that connector. Using a female OBDII with 4 leads/pins properly attached, you can stab the pins into the 19 pin connector - ground, power, K, and L lines.

Yes, not trying to make it OBDII, just want to use my Durametric on OBD1 (993).

Just saw this, would it work? $9.00 Thanks for your expertise!

That will work. Banana pins are 4mm diameter , but the pins on 19 pin connector are 2.5mm. The banana pin tapers somewhat at the tip, so don't force it to deep into the socket.

If you plan on buying this, PM your address and I'll send you 4 pins w/ some heat shrink tubing. You can then remove the banana plugs, solder on these pins and cover with heat shrink.

Default Which pin to which pin?

If I wanted to connect/jumper the trapezoidal OBDII connector to the 4 pins on the Round socket, would you happen to have the pin-out information? i.e which pins on the OBDII corrseponding to which pins on the 19pin Round connector?

Are you adapting the scantool from/to an early 993 to/from a 964?

Be sure to look at the .pdf file given in this post.

Actually, I'm trying to connect a PIWIS with the OBDII trapezoidal connector to Porsche's with the 19pin Round connector through an adapter that I was hoping to make myself.

But after reading the info you posted about the 993 cable being different form the 964, an extra K line and switching requirements, I am wondering how complex an adpator I would need to make now. However, the PIWIS has specific diagnostic modes for 928/944/968/964/993 through its on-screen drop down menu, and I'm now wondering if any switching and things like that will be taken care of by the PIWIS?

You're looking for the cable porsche # 000-721-971-81. Call your local dealer and see if they can locate one. I would think it's a straight cable, all the switching done in the PIWIS. You could make one using the above mentioned female OBDII receptacle and a 19 pin round plug. Do you have an oscilloscope? I would scope the output of the PIWIS to verify the signals.

How did you come to own a PIWIS?

It's not mine, but its sort of on loan to me for the short moment. It didn't come with the adapter you mentioned, so wanted to get it to work for older cars.

I don't have an oscilloscope, only a DMM. Any advice on how I could determine the lines to make my own adapter?

Is the adapter you mentioned above with porsche part number a whole new cable from the piwis to 19pin round connector, or an adapter from the existing 16pin trapezoid connector cable?

I noticed that there are some adapters on the market, like FVD, and Durametric. Some pics show 4 pins in the Round Connector, some 5 pins. What would be the reason for this?
