With R134a it should be 140cc (+/- 20cc) of PAG46 oil. I always believed the oil was pulled in by the vaccuum along with the refrigerant. If you evacuate the system after pouring the oil into the compressor I would expect some, if not all, of the oil would be extracted.

Regards

Dave

Thanks for the contact Dave. I`ve called Gary and have my car booked in for the conversion. Sounds simple enough Assuming no leaks are found etc.

Should be circa £200 all up for replacing receiver/dryier, drain, new oil and regas. Fingers crossed for cold air again.

Most systems enjoy 6 ounces of oil however I'd go with 7 to 8 if you have having leaks.
When you charge a system is not simply how much refrigerant you put in but rather what are the Pressure and Temperatures , meaning using an R134a P&T chart and comparing the high side to the ambient temperature at the moment otherwise you could be way off course if there are other issues such a poor evacuation, inaccurate refrigerant measurement. A good ac tech can walk you through this is you are interested.

A retro fit refrigerant that can be used to replace Refrigerant R12 and does not need the mineral oil in the refrigerant compressor to be replaced is SP34E. Available from 'AGas'
