Default Warning light help!

Dear all,
the previous owner of my 92 C2 had replaced the steering wheel with a momo. Hazard light came on but airbag light was not.
First impression was he had taken out the airbag light; hence hazard light requires a reset everytime the car is started.
After taking the guages out, we found the airbag lightbulb is still there. Engine fault code reports Front Right sensor error.
My mechanic thought because the airbag had been take out for so long, the sensors and the "airbag" computer is not malfunctioning.
Has anyone encountered something like this before? Any remedies?
Best regards,
Jack

I assume by the Hazard light you mean the "!" but what other light comes on with it?

The "!" does not come on alone.

Yes. sorry i meant the "!" warning light.
No other lights comes on. We all thought it was the airbag, but the airbag light bulb was still in place.

and there's only one engine code with a right front sensor error.. can that airbag sensor really be the problem?

I've seen other threads on Rennlist that mention removing the connector on the front sensors, cleaning them and reinstalling. You may want to try that.

You might also want to look and see if any other bulbs are missing or burnt out to see what other light is coming on with the "!"

Cleaning the sensors will not resolve the warning light issue if the airbag sensors have triggered the fault. Normally the problem with the airbag sensors is due to the increased resistance in the circuit due to corrosion on the terminals so cleaning them will resolve the problem but the lights will continue to come on. To remove the lights you need to get a reset done with a hammer.

However if the airbag bulb is in place this should also come on with the CEL "!" light. I assume you checked the bulb is actually working on the airbag light?

+1 - Scantool can reset the lights and fault codes too.

What is a scan tool?
My mechanic was only using a laptop to read the the code; although he tried to reset the code, it didn't work.

Its a homemade code reader. Do a search on here. There are lots of threads on it.

This happened to me. You need a new sensor. dcauto has "used" ones for $80. Easier than hassling with a band-aid fix. FWIW, I had another warning light episode and the hammer said it was a "short" at the battery cable. Just cleared the codes and it was gtg.
