Default Oil filter importance

OK, did the reading (headaches almost gone) and am settled in on the type of oil for my first change of the 964.
Now, the filter. Is there a preferred one out there?
And is a special filter wrench required for the filters that fit out cars or will an off-the-O-Reilly's shelve job do.
And, crush washers? Dealership for those???
Finally, what is a good ointment for hot oil burns?

Porsche OEM is the preferred filter.
A regular filter wrench would do.
No crush washers on the filter.
Wear thicker rubber gloves and you'll be fine. Put plenty of rags underneath because it will leak, there's no way around it.

And don't forget to put a little smear of oil on the (dry) filter seal.

So....what oil did you decide on?

Marc
p.s. I punch a hole in the filter while draining the tank and case, then tape it up, and never spill a drop.

+3...but I spilled a bit.
Getting the filter in/out is delicate, very tight space due to A/C compressor.

You shouldn't need a filter wrench. It should spin off by hand - and install hand-tight too. Plenty of room to wrap your hand around it for a good grip. But it will be hot after you get the oil up to temp to drain.

I bought a dozen crush washers from the dealer for the case & reservoir drain plugs.

Have fun!

Great. Will head over to P dealer for filer and drain plug washers.
Marc, got Brad Penn. 20w 50. There is a dealer here in town. $53 a case.
I shall take my time. Gloves, towels, drill.
If burn center has wifi, will write to let you know how it goes.

poke a small hole in the top of the filter before you open the side drain. The vacuum from the oil rushing out will draw almost all the oil out of the filter. Be sure to put a piece of tape over the hole before you start taking the filter out. If you dont do this be prepared with lots of paper towels to clean up the engine compartment.

I've torn apart a few oil filters... Mahle and Wix are good. Fram are horrible.
