Purchased a bit of a project car last week. It's a 1990 C2 that was stolen and recovered in 1995. The 1st owner after the recovery decided on a full colour change from white to a VW Lemon Green which I really like.
The PO spent a fair bit on the car in the last year including: top end re-build, RS lightweight clutch, RS type bypass cup pipes, KW v3, cups, tear drops, rear wiper delete screen change and RS style ducts.
My first job is to have the gearbox re-built as you can see from the pics we trailored the car back rather than driving it. When we viewed it (was a nice warm day) the box wasn't too bad, just slipping out of 5th and reverse.
On a cold day it's a bitch to get into 1st/2nd. Once the gearbox is re-built, my mechanic (who used to work with Wayne Schofield at Redline) is going to ask his advice on any mods before taking it over to Wayne for a re-map.
A few other jobs will be done whilst it's in, including a service, pads all round, re-fit plastic sills, and a split, cv boot. Cosmetically I am going to have the wheels painted black and may add black Carrera decals to soften the Lemon Green glow
Internally, it is all black leather in fairly good condition. There is wear on the drivers side bolster which I will try and repair myself. It has matching lemon/green dials BTW. I will keep the heavy seats for the time being, until I decide if I want to go all out lightweight, or keep it bloated. I've ordered a new quick release boss and have plumped for an OMP flat dish wheel, and I'll be replacing the door cards at some stage.
Externally the paint is far from perfect and there are a couple of bubbles showing on n/s front windscreen corner, bottom of n/s front wing, and below n/s front headlight. They aren't bad and I will get them rectified at some stage. But what I don't want to do is to throw money into a cat D as it will always be what it is.
All in all I'm pretty please with what I've bought. Having previously owned a 993 C2S and a 930, presumably the 964 will fall between those cars in terms of performance, driveability, maintenance etc?
Cheers
Richard
