Dave I think I have found an explanation - The book by Adrian Streather says that the pdas / abs unit part number for 89 and 90 is 964 618 126 00 and the part number for 91 upwards is 964 618 126 01.
The 00 version can be exchanged for a 01, but not vice versa. Therefore a 92 model cannot use a 00 version which mine has on it.
Let me know what your thoughts are.

Have you tried Porshapart? Hopefully if they have the model you require, you can then sell yours and not be too out of pocket.

unfortunately the price of C2 ECU's is a lot less than C4 ECU's...i have my old C4 ecu which was a 00 series and replaced that with a 01 series.

A C2 ecu will be about £250-350 and a C4 will be about £600-700....

Found one place so far that has 2 in stock and both are 01 part number.
£750 + VAT. He did say I could drive through and test it first.
But they wouldn't exchange.

The breakers often find out the new price and then try to sell them at half price. So you're not doing too bad and at least you can try before you buy. Then sell your old one if it all works out.

Main difference between the 00 and 01 is the Speedo is fed from the 01 (using the front left wheel sensor) - early cars has a separate sender on the gearbox.

From one nightmare to another............
Had the car in today to sort the roof as it wasn't working all the time. they also had a look at the pdas/abs problem.
Apparently its the pump that is ceased so now got to find a second hand one.
when my dad dropped the car off for me it went from bad to worse.
1. the roof still didn't work.
2. as soon as the car is started the pdas/abs, warning lights and buzzer all sound straight away without even driving
3. the speedo doesn't work
4. and when i restarted the car, it didn't start, sounded like the starter motor didn't engage and just span, although it started on the next try.
will be on the phone tommorow.....
