1990 964 will not start
I have a 90 C4 that isn't used very often. Usually it requires a battery charge then
it starts. I tried to start it after checking the battery for power. The engine attempted to start but did not. I put a battery charger on the battery then
attemped to start it again. The engine just turned without starting.
HELP!!!!!
Thanks

Your fuel may be too old.
Ive seen this problem where the fuel had lost its calorific value, turned slightly gummy and had to be drained from the tank.
The whole fuel system was then purged with new fuel and a new fuel filter installed.
Just a thought....

Use process of elimination, and start with the easy stuff. Fuel should be OK as long at it is less than 3 months old. Fuel pressure and flow are easy checks, but it does take an FI service fitting and pressure gage. The chug-chug-chug-chug-chug-chug (six cylinders) sound when cranking will tell you if compression is OK. No chugging is a big problem, but different-intensity chugs often mean a low cylinder. If the turnover is too slow, the car will not start and you need to charge the battery.
If you have fuel pressure and compression, the only other requirement is spark. Bad electrical connections often account for problems with cars that spend time sitting. Good luck.

A car needs four things to start: fuel, spark, timing, compression. If your car started the last time you drove it, your problem is most likely spark (bad/low battery [battery should be 12.5 volts minimum]; weak coil? [spark should be blue, not red, yellow or orange]). Check everything connected to spark first, then move to fuel (out of fuel? [don't laugh] fuel pump relay? fuel pump? fuel quality?).
