Default Problem with oil pressure light

Hi guys,

When the engine of my 964 C2 Tip is very hot, and you press the gas suddently or you brake hard and fast, the Oil pressure indicator go under 1, so light turns because the RPM's go under 800 RPM, when the idle go to 900 RPM, the light turns off.

I think that it must be a problem with idle. ¿Whay do you think rennlisters?

Regards!!

As Indy says, it's completely normal. If the idle speed drops below the 800rpm norm for whatever reason, the oil pump is also running at below normal speed and you would expect the oil pressure to drop for that reason. Also, when the oil is really hot it is more difficult for the system to maintain a high pressure at tickover.

As far as oil level is concerned, with a dry sump engine the oil level is almost immaterial to oil pressure - unless there is virtually NO oil at all. As long as the oil tank has sufficient to supply the needs of the oil pump the only consequence of the low oil level is to unneccesarily overwork the little oil that there IS there.

Regards

Dave
