Default Braille or similar lightweight battery in 964?

I've run a Braille 3121 in my 911SC, which sees street, track and autocross use, and not on any regular basis. The Braille performed well for three years.

Will a 964 do OK with a light battery like a Braille? I was thinking of adding a battery cut off switch with one, understanding that 964s have more drain than an (earlier) SC.

A few track guys use Odyssey 680's without issue. I am going to try one this season.

I recall reading that the non carbon fibre Braille batteries were rebadged DEKA batteries, which are available for substantially less.

I used an Odyssey 680MJ in my daily driven VW Corrado for 3 yrs without issue. Strongly considering one for the 964. Approximately 20 lbs off the forward axle is nothing to sneeze at.

Yep, as far as I know, you are correct. I replaced a Braille with another Deka-made version bought in Advance auto parts...$180 vs. $78. Even if it lasts half as long, it works out. The thing is that the Dekas apparently test out to higher specs than they advertise, and Braille advertises the higher numbers. I have a 17 lb version in my 911SC. I'm just curious if the needs of the 964 are greater. Sounds like it could work, though.

Do you guys have to modify the tray or hold down system to use these? I need a battery and this looks like a good idea.

I bought a Rennline Battery Mount Kit for Odyssey 680 and, with just a little modification, all work very well!

Ciao

PAOLOP was having problems posting pictures so the following are from him as a modification for using the Rennline Bettery Mount Kit for the Odyssey 680 with a Braille battery.

"You can see (red arrow) that I put a prisma-shaped piece of polystyrene HD in order to keep the battery adherent to the case."

I have a Rennline kit in my SC (I believe it was the model that they make for the Odyssey 925) with my Braille 3k model (the 21 pounder). The Rennline kits are really expensive...nicely made, but expensive.

I just bought an alternately-badged version of the same battery for the 964 for $76 plus shipping (with a set of SAE screw-in auto terminals and shipping, the whole deal was $110, versus $188 plus shipping for the Braille). I bought a Braille FRG 8" top mount kit ($19), and I'll source a small battery tray with J-hook holders for $10 or so. I'll post pics when it's all installed...$29 for a mount vs. $125 for the Rennline.

Default Odussey 680

+1 on he Odyssey 680. I have used mine for two years and it has worked fine. My car is used in the summer months only and starts just fine even if not driven for a week or so.
