Hi, when I turn up the stat on my heater I now get a whirring sound in the engine bay. Is this something scary!!???
When the stats tuned to cold it goes away.
When I turn the ignition off the whirring sound winds down like a wheel loosing its momentum (sounds un lubricated)
should I do something with it right away or is something thats just on it's way out?
Thanks for Reading.

It sounds like the heat blower motor. A lot of us have that problem and you will need to change either just the motor ($100) or the whole unit ($700) depending if the fans are hitting the unit or not.
I'm not an expert, but thats the way mine sounds and I know I need to replace it. Someone have sugested just removing it and using the RS type tube to replace it.

Sounds like the rear blower motor may be showing its age. They are easy to replace if you are comfortable working with tools. Some have changed the electric motor within the blower to save money.
If it fails, nothing will be lost or critically damaged. You will just loose some heating volume.
The blower is held in with two 6mm bolts (10mm socket head).
