Default Carbon canister - delete or not?

So I am in the process of removing weight from my car this winter in the off season.

Having stripped out the a/c lines, I am wondering if I can delete the carbon canister? I know it vents fuel vapours then returns them to the engine to be burned, but do Cup or race cars have them? Can I safely remove it and just block off the lines?

Thanks.

This probably has no bearing on your situation at all, but, when I swapped motors in my M3, I deleted the canister with no ill-effect. I'd imagine it's the same basic idea, but then someone will be along shortly who actually knows what they're talking about.

On the flip side, its not the best thing for the environment. But, neither is a cat bypass, or an internal combustion engine in general...

"Can I safely remove it and just block off the lines?"
The line from the tank should not be blocked off , it is the vent for the tank .
I hope you will keep the carbon canister in place .
I walked past a parked car on the street yesterday , it stank of raw gas .
A guy I see every now and then has a fuel leak problem , his newish car stinks of raw gas , I have told him more than a few times but he claims his mechanic says there is no leak .

Well I don't want gas smells, unvented gas pressures, or environment concerns but I was wondering if there was a lighter way to do the same thing.

Ha! I'd have to sell the car to be able to afford it.
