Tirerack has the new Koni's, complete assemblies. I had my original shocks replaced with Bilstein HD which are way too stiff, I want to try the Koni's. Does anybody know which of these part numbers fit the REAR of my 1989 C4?

I want to avoid the cartridge inserts since I do not have the original shocks anyhow.

It looks to me that koni does not have shocks for the back of the 89 .
I went to the koni site and they do not list a rear shock for the 89 .

l found some on ebay new awhile back, but I think it is rare to come across them.

I believe they stopped producing them for the 89/90 models. I have them in the front of my 90, but since having them fitted, the fitter has told me I can no longer get them for the rear.

Thank you everybody for your responses. I realize already that KONI stopped making the rears for 1989 C4's a long time ago. However, it looks like they may be making them again, Tirerack is listing them now and available in a few weeks time. The question is which to order? One model is for cars with Boge shocks, the other for Boge or Koni. I am not sure what my car had, but it has Bilstein HD now, complete assembly up front and rear, not some kind of cartridge insert.

Have you considered Factory replacements? If the Bilsteins were too stiff, I'm not Koni's will be much better. The stock parts, however, definitely provide a more compliant ride.

Tirerack is listing no koni shocks for the rear of an 89 .
Tirerack is listing struts for the front .
If you are asking about koni shocks for the rear of your 89 , you can't get them from tirerack , imho . I took the part number from tirerack and crossed it at the koni site , the part number that tirerack has for the rear shock is a front strut .

If you are asking about the front struts for your 89
