Default PPI and accident damage

I'm looking at a 1991 C2 with repaired damage to the front end. Haven't seen it in person yet. Would I need to take the car to a dedicated body shop to look at the repair or would a knowledgeable shop like Powertech in NJ be able to handle the entire PPI?

I would think that a dedicated P-car shop would be able to help and do a good PPI. Just make sure they are Porsche certified mechanics, lots of things that are quirky about these cars.
I would also think that they would be able to handle checking out the body repairs as well.

There are plenty of 964's that have not been crashed. What is the asking price on that one? If it's not <14k I wouldn't even bother.

My experience is that a good mechanic shop will suggest you get the opinion of an equally good body shop to assess the extent of the original damage and the overall quality of the repair.

If there is body damage, you'll have to have it assessed at a reputable bodyshop. Powetech will be able to give you a good idea about the mechanical condition of the car and which areas have been repainted, however they will not be able to tell you if the frame is straight or the extent of the repair.

Try to get pictures of the actual damage. That wont tell everything but it can give you an idea. Frame damage can happen pretty easy on these cars and not always easy to spot.

Thanks for the advice. I'll be looking at the car next week. If it drives and looks good, I'll consider having a body shop take a look and of course, post a few pics.

You mentioned NJ - it is possible that people on the forum may be familiar with the actual car. (For example, I had a PPI done on a '91 C2 in NJ that had accident damage. I passed on this one though I now have a very clear knowledge of that car...which happens to be very good in many other respects.) You might add some more info./specifics about the car or if you don't want to post, PM if you want to compare notes.
