Sell 1990 C2 & 2004 Cobra for a 965
I will ask this here because I know what the 965 group would say.....
My wife and I have been thinking and talking......
I have been toying with the idea to possibly get into a 1991 to 1994 Porsche Carrera 965 Turbo...
If I were to sell my 2004 Cobra and 1990 Carrera 2......I could easily step into a nice Carrera Turbo...It may take a bit to find a excellent example but I estimate that I can get into a Turbo for $40,000 to about $48,000
Would you do it...?????
The only thing holding me back is that both of my cars are in excellent shape ( low mileage, no snow, rain, accidents, flawless under carriage....etc) and the future Cobra's value....... and the fact that it will take some time to find the perfect Turbo Carrera......
So what would you do honestly?

That is what I am afraid of...All the 965's I see for sale (which is not much) are being sold by non Porsche dealers or private and are all over God's creation.
I do not like not knowing the reputation of the seller in eigther instance...
I am afraid of getting rid of 2 near perfect...low mileage cars for the unknown.

I can go check it out on Friday afternoon if its still there if you want. I need to go over to a store by there anyways. They did have some nice looking Porsches and such there on the lot.

IF the body is straight...everything else can be fixed.

Yes...but if it requires some serious money to fix that everything else, I'd look at what that final number gets me into. Perhaps a 993TT? Maybe a 360? Maybe a Gallardo? Maybe an Esprit TT?
You only live once, so take that extra bit of time to find that car that will satisfy your cravings for that 965. You say you got 2 cherries now....there's a 965 cherry out there.

Do eet. There are still good examples of turbos out there. Good luck with the search and have fun. You can't beat the looks of the turbo and the performance should be a blast. If you can swing it, get the '94 3.6. They are more spendy but will likely hold their value.

+1 You need to drive one first. Then decide. Right now you have two great cars that provide different driving experiences. That is a great thing to have, the option to choose which car you want to experience any particular day.
Question is, will you miss the Cobra?
The 965 is a beautiful car and I would jump at the opportunity to own one... but not sure about making the change after seeing the photos and the work you have put into the Cobra.
Would be great if you could manage to keep the cobra and change your 964 for the 965...
Either way, nice problem to have

I can't comment on if you should make the move, but regarding the quoted statement above- (1) actually I always preferred to buy from a private owner, especially one that was **** about the car and is selling on their own because they are confident their car is above average (condition can then be verified from an inspection if needed anyway) and (2) unfortunately for a car as rare as a 965 the chances are better that you will have to travel to find one than not. I realized this when looking for my 1993 964- to get what I wanted (a low-mileage 92-94 cabriolet stick) I simply had to expand the geographical search. I never regretted hunting for and getting the right one, and in fact just bought my 3rd car from long distance due to the desire to get just what I wanted- the shipping via covered truck was about $1/mile for the latest acquisition. Unfortunately, to get the right car you have to be ready for this...in my case I pretty much looked at the whole east and central/east area of the US (didn't look for things all the way in California for example). Check the porsche club magazine, hemmings, cars.com, autotrader, etc for leads on some cars!

Too bad you couldn't swing all of them, I understand Bill Cosby owns a 2004 Cobra

You are a serious buyer, not a tire kicker. If you attend a local PCA meet and greet someone will let you have a turbo ride, or maybe a drive. If no turbos show up, I bet someone knows someone that can help you. Porsche people are really good people.
