Default Can't find my zipper...

...among other personal problems! In this case, I can't find the sunroof access zipper.

My sunroof seals are shot so I ordered all new replacement seals. The previous owner of my car had a cobalt blue headliner put in which looks pretty cool but there is no access zipper.

Can someone give me an approximate measurement to where the zipper should be from the back window or the sunroof opening? Is the zipper one straight line or is it more of a flap with three sides?

Looks like I will have to slit the headliner and either have it repaired or replaced (with a proper zipper this time) after working on the sunroof.

Thanks!

Kyle

If you had a zipper , you would see it , its not small or hidden .

I replaced my seals a few years ago. I dont think there is any need to gain access to the sunfoof motor area for that job.

Just open the sunroof a few inches, pull down on the front of the sunroof headliner and slide back. Disconnect the cables from the roof panel and it will come right out.

Default Van Halen instruction set

- reach down... beside your leg... n' ease the seat back back...
And you should see above & behind you the zipper line along the upper edge of the rear window on the ceiling cover.
Feel along for the bulge in the zipper line to find the zipper pull.

not quite that simple but almost - not only release the cables but also the front guides these are accessed in the same area just forward of the cable attachment .

5 stars LOL.

The first thing I did tonight getting into the car was reach down between my legs, ease the seat back... an right behind me was the zipper. I never noticed/cared about it before.

If all service manuals could be in Van Halen.

Do you need to re-upholster the sunroof panel? The panel is held in at the front edge of the sunroof. You open the sunroof 3"-4" and at the front edge there are 6 or 7 clips holding it on. The panel sits in grooves on both sides. I had to carefully bow mine slightly to get it free of the grooves. No other disassembly of the sunroof is needed.

I too am a fan of the Van Halen service manual! If anyone can figure out how to translate David Lee Roth's hiccups and screams, please let me know. Thanks for the tips on the sunroof access as well.

Thanks again to Rennlisters!!!!!!!

My liner aome loose a while back and I was preparing to remove the lid when I re-glue it. I would have been realy upset if I had found afterwards that removal was not necessary.
