I don't have experience with both, however I just switched from Bridgestone road tires to the R888s and find them great on the track. They would be waaaay too noisy for me for regular road use. The R888s are much more predicatable than the Michelin Pilot Sport Cups I have on my other car.

R888's are track tires with a tread wear rating of 100. The A048 is a racing tire with a tread wear of 60. I use the R888's and love them but would never consider either of these tires for the street where I suppose you are having the noise issues. Both will be noisey due to the tread design for maximum grip which equals maximum tread on the pavement. Get a street performance tire and another set of wheels for your track tires. Problem solved!

Sounds like the A048's have a noise problem as well:

Had the A048's on the D90's when I bought the car.
The good: when warmed up, very sticky, great for cornering, great for the track
The bad: awful for regular street use, very (I mean) very loud, not very comfortable, terrible in wet conditions, runflats - cannot be repaired
No experience with the R888.

hi
thank for replying, it seam that they are as noisy as the R888, as for better grip the info was coming from someone that is driving a Lotus elise, a different car all together than a 964,
2 sets of wheels and tyres is probably the way to go, one for road and one for track...
