Default Interesting piece on the abortive Porsche Takeover of VW

Seems that the conclusion is that if not for the Credit Crisis, Porsche would own VW, and like a corporate raider, use VWs cash horde to fund the acquisition:

Also more on the new Porsche strategy.

What about bringing back a 356 type cabrio with a light, air-cooled engine

This is a great article about the chain of events. I posted a message about people's feelings about VW being in charge. Most responses were favorable.

I still think it would have been incredible for our little Porsche to OWN Volkswagon.............Let's hope for the best........

"A new supercar, along the lines of the Carrera GT, is considered a must-have."

How about a modern, street legal version of the 959?!

You have to buy the next Total 911 to read about the abortive 965/969.

Ahhh, the best laid plans of mice and men.....

I look forward to seeing what VW does with Porsche, I wish it could be the other way around as Porsche really did look to be in a position to pull off quite the coup.

All and all though, I imagine that we will be seeing some really interesting things coming our way from Germany in the next 10 years. It should be exciting to watch.

Thanks for the post, I was wondering what was going on with this.

Don't know if it's just me, but I feel that the management of VW are more in touch with the average Porscheophile than the old management of Porsche. VW are actively racing to promote their brands, whereas Porsche treated racing as another cash cow. VW are also looking to the future, with smaller high performance cars with lower emissions. Their family styling is also better looking that Porsche - trying to make everything look like a 911 really doesn't work lets face it!
