Default info from vin # ? and early 90 cars

hi guys,
how can you tell the build date from the vin?
im looking at a 1990 964 c2 and want to check if it is the 'early 90' car.
Did the early 90 cars have different clutch and suspension parts that are more expensive to upgrade? .. my shop mentioned to look out for this.

thanks

The build date is on a sticker on the drivers door (at least for US cars). The 90 clutches are the same at the 90 and later cars. The 89 had a different clutch. The shocks are different lengths on the 89-90's from the later cars. See https://rennlist.com/forums/964-foru...-question.html

If you want to learn more about the differences of the various years, I would suggest getting a copy of Adrian's book if you don't already have it. http://www.bentleypublishers.com/por...Companion.html No affiliations.

Good luck with your search for a car.

I have a question which might be relevant to the OP...I have a 90 964 C2 but the build date is Sept 1989. How does this factor into the clutch/suspension question?

I believe after Nov '90 is when the suspension was changed. When I ordered my KW Var3's I had to specify pre or post Nov 90 to make sure I got the correct set. This is for both C2 and C4.

Yup... I experienced the same thing when ordering my KW kit. I also believe that is the case when ordering new rear brakes. That must have changed around late '90 as well.

look at your rear upper mounts. The red is old style the white is new style
