I did an epoxy floor when I built my house 4 years ago. I'm really glad I painted the floor. It makes it a lot easier to clean and shininess reflects light well so the workspace is better lit. I will warn you that I have some chips and nicks from dropped tools, sliding heavy objects, etc. I do a lot of work in the garage. :-) Sometime in the future, I will put down a third coat to cover up the wear and tear.
I used Griot's Floor Paint and followed their instructions. It took me two full days to do a 3 car garage with the help of 2 friends. We used a total of 8 gallons of paint. We ran short of paint near the end, I would suggest over buying paint so you don't run short. I have 1/4 of the center bay where the paint is thin.
Also be careful, epoxy floors are very slippery when wet. In hindsight, I should have done the "optional" step of adding quartz crystals to the top layer.
No affiliations.
Good luck on the project.

Thanks for the replies. I've seen an installation with the "non skid" added and it didn't remain very clean. I think it might also be hard to move a mop across it....maybe this isn't the best surface? I'm going to be installing a lift and doing quite a bit of DIY stuff.

My garage floor was done professionally and looks great. I recommend this approach.
I have use Bennny Mooore epoxy paint (oil based), with great success, for screened in porches. On the concrete slab.
I have also used Rust Oleum's oil based and latex based epoxy floor coatings with good success in my basement (laytex) and work-shop (oil).
Like most painting projects, it all comes done to the proper surface prep, prior to the coating. Acid washing/etching is key. 1 part muriatic acid to 4 parts water is a good starting point.
One recommendation, in your garage building plans, if your village/city will allow it, put in a floor drain. This will help you cleaning and melted snow removal.

Grassroots Motorsports did a fantastic writeup this year (June) on the process as well as a comparision to other finishing techniques. Their opinion is that a polished concrete floor performs best in the long run.
Good... looks like you are getting the 10' ceilings and a full lift? pour the right concrete.....

Awesome plans! My favorite room in my small house is my one-car garage. I decided to rent a garage at the track for the lift and to store the 911s in the winter. At home, I went with salt and pepper expoxy flooring . The track garage is painted. I much prefer the epoxy flooring as 1) it is tough as nails - dropped a hammer, and no dents!, 2) it doesn;t show dirt, and 3) it just looks good!
Best of luck!

My suggestion on the floor is a solid color. Worst thing when you're under the car working on something and you can't find that small little screw you need because it blends in with the floor.

I'm definitely going to put a TV in there with internet so I can have access to RL!!! I need something slightly more functional than this, but I've come across some really cool stuff.
