RS America Wheel Setup
The RS America had 7" wide wheels in the front, and 8" wide wheels in the rear. Does anyone know what was the advantage, or thought for this was?

As opposed to the regular C2/4 having 6's and 8's? 20 years earlier the factory first optioned 7" front and 8" rear wheels (not to mention offered staggered wheel sizes), so this wasn't some new configuration...........
Happy to shed more light on your question if it's a bit more specific.

On further thinking, maybe you're wondering why not just throw the 9's from the turbo on the back? You do get the possibility of rubbing, but it's probably only something a manufacturer would worry about as most of us who run 9's (or more) with 275's cope with the tight tolerance.

I was wondering about this because my own car has this configuration, 17x7 front 17x8 rear, put on by the previous owner.
I thought this configuration was quite "odd" until I saw that the RSA's came from the factory this way.
Was this configuration used for the RSA's for any particular track reason?
What were the sizes of the 17" cup 1 wheels from the factory, for the C2/C4?

Not to Hijack the thread, but i recently acquired a 94 RSA.
I am very interested in what size wheels I can use (10's on rear with 8's on the front?). Would that help to reduce the understeer?
Any recos on tires for street and for track?
Appreciate any info as the learning curve is high on a Porsche.
Thanks
Jim

to reduce understeer you would need wider wheels and or tires on the front compared to the stock setup..which is 7x17 and 8x17
putting one inch wider back wheels on would only make the car understeer more .
as for the widest rims easily put on RSA'a it is 8's normally on the front and 10's on the rear.
