Kevin - I can take some photos this weekend. The changes to make a good DE car depend on how serious or fast you want to go. I'm aiming for a car that can be driven to and from the track and be fun on the track. There are others on here that have more serious cars, if that's what you are looking to build. The majority of changes were to ensure all running gear is fresh and tight. In my case, the car's previous owners had deferred a lot of basic maintenance. I changed the following
  • H&R Greens
  • New shocks - Bilstein HDs
  • Corner balance and alignment for track specs
  • New sway bar drop links
  • Disks & Pads (Pagid Blue)
  • Front strut tie bar
  • Bleed brake fluid & clutch
  • Steel lug nuts
  • 4mm wheel spacers in the rear
  • Charged and converted A/C to R134
  • Replaced many rubber hoses that were weeping or hard
  • New clutch, clutch master & slave (kept DMF - may regret this)

Future DE-oriented items?
  • Bolt in roll bar
  • Recaro SPG XL seats
  • 5 point seat belts
  • R-compound tires on separate wheels
  • Longer wheel studs
  • Non airbag steering wheel (smaller diameter)

I'm sure I'm forgetting some things but I hope this gives you a general idea of what I've done and what I'm aiming for. I've driven 4 days on the track so far. The car handles great (well balanced, good brakes).

Kevin,

Here's some photos of my DE car. I washed and waxed it yesterday. As you can see, its a basically a stock 964.

Front view. Yes, I know I need to fix the smile. Its on the to do list.

Rear

Yours truly

Default Beautiful C2 !!

Hey Rob, Thanks for sending along some pics...that is truly a looker !! My 1st Porsche was the Indischrot 1988 928 S4 AT and I will always have a thing for the color and that car,,,gone to a new home.... I finally figured out what was happening to the third brake light !! I used the cannell.UK wiring sheets and traced out the reason for no sunroof AND no 3rd brake light !!! There is a 14 pin connector in the right rear passenger side panel, behind the padded interior cover...the connector was Disconnected !!! Suddenly the brake light works, the sunroof works and all functions are OK.. Cannot for the life of me figure out how that tight multipin came apart...it is also where the harness is for the Cab convertible is if the car is so equipped.. I am taking the car to RPM tommorrow to get it evaluated and try to see if it will pass our inspections without further restorations......ordered the front chin spoiler valances one new , one used...left and right...had not heard anything recently..... Looking forward to the Sep 26 High Performance Driving Course at Summit Point !!! Wish me luck on the Inspects...love to get it streetable soon !!! .......Kevin.........

Kevin, nice car, from your pics it looks like you have the RS Fan/Alternator belt setup (one belt instead of two).

Talking Love that Midnight Blue

Thanks MoJo.....Well todayI got the 3rd stage of a root canal done ...but Yesterday I had a great 2 hrs having my C2 go thru a PPI...no that for me is a post purchase inspection by Stan Fox of RPM Racing in Newington,Va, What a world of experience he had to share...great advice and my 91 C2 passed the overall test with just a few items to do. Gotta clean around the oil cooler and fan... minor stuff.. I may need to find a good used catalytic converter or a bolt-on track cat that will fit just to get thru Va. inspections. A work in progress.. I would love to get it Dyno tested sometime this winter. Kevin
