Default exhaust tip

was all set to order a new exhaust tip to replace the blackened stock one on the car i recently purchased - until i saw the (shock & amazement) prices.

so with some knee cushions, fine grit sandpaper, mother's scratch remover and cut polish....and about 2hrs. removed about 100,000km of hardened "black" am ok with the result (but likely there is an easier method that allows for keeping one's fingertips....if so let me know!!), cheers gerry

If I recall, the factory tip was in black. What you removed was paint and not build-up. I also had mine polished like yours

I polished mine for a while but recently had it powder coated back to the stock semi gloss black OEM finish.

This subject comes up from time to time. The black tip is the only new option available through Porsche. The stainless tip is what most of our cars arrived with from the Factory.

Here's a thread from a little while back which provides suggestions and pics.

all the factory tips are Stainless under that flat black paint...

it would have been easier on your knees to loosen the clamp and remove the tip to put it on a bench to work on, or maybe use a bench grinder with a polishing wheel as well

One of the first things I did last year when I got my car...easy to do and it made it look much cleaner than the old black paint.
