very good fuel mileage!!!
Last 2 days I drove the 964 for 173 kms (close to 110 miles) mostly high speed highway driving (between 100 and 130 miles/hour) I filled the tank before and after the drive and I needed only 23 liters to make the tank full again.
that makes an average of 13 liters per 100 kms drive and it´s a little less that what my Peugeot needs when I drive her fast in the highway (averages 14 liters per 100 kms doing 100-120 miles/hour)
Of course driving fast my 964 is much more rewarding and fun than driving fast my daily driver

My DD is a Peugeot 307 with a 4 cyl 2.0 lts 140CV engine, don´t have pictures of it as it´s only a regular 307 like thousand others around the globe.
I think the reason that is such a fuel guzzler at high speed is that 5th gear is rather short and so it revs much higher than the 964 at 120 miles per hour (top speed is around 125)

20.2 mpg @ 100-120 miles/hour outstanding!
Even @ average North American highway speeds that's fantastic!!
Does Argentina's laws allow you to travel at this speed for extended periods without having to worry about the police giving you a ticket?

you have to be careful with speed limits inside Buenos Aires city, in the highways we have an 80 miles per hour limit but police controls are scarce

Those new coils and plug wires are paying for themselves, eh!
I'd be interested in hearing what kinda mileage you'd get at more modest highway speeds with the cruise control set and minimal braking. I wonder what the optimal highway speed is?

I have always found that the 964 does extremely well on the highway. On my long travels I am able to get on a 16 gallon tank almost 500 miles, going 80-85 mph with little to no braking with cruise control set. I have to say amazing for an 18 year old car.

I will hazard a guess that the number for a manual transmission 964 is around 70 km/hr (43 mph), and the fuel consumption will run above 30 mpg. Slower than optimum speed and you get low on the engine efficiency curve. Much higher than optimum and the increased wind resistance starts needing fuel far more than the increase in ground speed.

Optimal speed for best fuel economy is a good thing to know when fuel is low and it is a long way to the next station. It is also good to know it if you want to get home without a fuel stop. Anyone know the magic number for a 964? Anyone know what the peak gas mileage is? Anyone know if the spoiler helps or hurts fuel consumption?

500 miles on 16 gallons is 31.25 mpg, which is astonishing for 80+ mph. I think the next long trip's gonna be at a higher constant speed, to see if I can get close to that.

I thought the 964s have 20 gallon tanks. So there are some 16 gallon tanks out there?
