Default Steering sound.

Hey all,

When I turn my steering wheel all the way left, I'm getting a "WUERRRRRRR" sound with slight vibration.

Anyone know the cause? The sound is less prominent when turning right but is still audible if you listen carefully.

If it is just the pump making noise , its probably no big deal .

Do you know where the power steering pump is ?
If so can you listen to it as someone else turns the steering wheel ?

Is the power steering fluid reservoir filled up with fluid ?

Yeah the fluid is new, I just flushed it when I got the car 3-4 weeks ago.

Alright, i'll check up on the noise, so if it's just the whurring pump sound i'm all good?

Thanks again.

Was it making the noise before you flushed the fluid? Could it be air in the system?

If its making noise while you turn, it sounds like you are either low on fluid or have air in the system. To purge the air, turn the steering full to one side and then the other a few times. This will push any air out of the system. After doing so, be sure to recheck the fluid reservoir. When my car had a minor power steering leak, when ever the fluid level got near the low level on the reservoir, the pump would make a noise like you described. Ultimately the fix for me was to fix the leak, then bleed and refill.

Good luck on finding the cause.

I dunno! Once I bought the car I flushed it and this is the first time it's been making that noise since (1 month ago or so).

I'm hoping there's no leak and it's just air as Rocket Rob mentioned, but I'll check again once I have time.

There isnt much that can go wrong with that pump, i have dissasembled mine a few times and they are pretty simple, its simply a wheel with some movable vanes that spins. If you flushed the system it is probably air trapped inside. Turn the wheel back and forth to full lock several times which should purge the air out, make sure the resevior doesnt go empty.

Not to hijack, but I just did my first autocross this past Saturday. Immediately after each of my last 4 runs, my power steering made the same noise. It only lasted from the time I stopped the run until I parked in the paddock area. I checked the fluid. It looked just a bit under the MIN. Could air have gotten into the system in the TIGHT turns of that course?

Could it? I would say yes since mine was doing it without the aggressive driving. I've found its best to to keep my reservoir at the max level.
