Default What's in a number?

I'm replacing a couple of my Oil lines. I have noticed that there are different versions available for different prices. An example is the line that runs from the thermostat to the filter housing.

I can get this as part no. 96420725407 for £170 + vat OR 96420725408 is available for £192 + vat.... In this example, is it worth paying extra for the later part no. or would I just be buying the same thing with a later production date ????????????

IIRC , the thermostat was changed at some point and the hose was changed also .
If you have an early type thermostat , you need an early type hose .
and vice versa .

Thanks Indy, I'll look into that.

As a more general question I suppose, does an updated part number necessarily mean a tangible / physical change to the part in question?

I replaced that exact line earlier this year. I bought the 964207254-07 version and it worked just fine for my 89 C4. The -07 version does not have the same outer lining as the original and I have not seen the other to know if there is a difference. The 964207254-08 version lists as a Porsche part while the -07 version is made by OEM supplier. Not sure if there is any real difference other than price.

The lines that matter what version of thermostat you have are:

964-207-251-02-M120 Oil Hose, Bottom of Oil Tank to Side of Oil Thermostat (only for Thermostats 964-207-047-03 and 964-207-047-06), 964 Carrera 2/4 (1989-94), 911 Turbo (1991-94)

964-207-251-03-M120 Oil Hose, Bottom of Oil Tank to Side of Oil Thermostat (only for Thermostats 964-207-047-05/07/08, 964 Carrera 2/4 (1989-94), 911 Turbo (1991-94)

964-207-241-04-M120 Oil Hose, Bottom of Oil Tank to Top of Oil Thermostat (only for Thermostats 964-207-047-03 and 964-207-047-06), 964 Carrera 2/4 (1989-94), 911 Turbo (1991-94)

964-207-241-06-M120 Oil Hose, Bottom of Oil Tank to Top of Oil Thermostat (for Thermostat 964-207-047-05/07/08), 964 Carrera 2/4 (1989-94), 911 Turbo (1991-94)

The part # / version of thermostat is on the side of the unit and is identified by the last 2 numbers (see pic)
