Default Headlight Ring Painting

Any recommendations on where to send my new H4 headlight rings for painting?

Any paint shop can do it. Although I'd make sure they get good quality paint and match it well, because IMO silver's the toughest color to match.

You could probably even paint them yourself as long as you prep them well and take your time. You can order the paint online at a place like paintscratch.com. A can or two and you'll be set.

Just don't drop the paint on your shoes!

Sounds like a reasonable approach . . . Jaime, any advice on the shoe protection? :-O

I did my black rings myself, and it wasn't bad. It is important to wet-sand at 600 grit for a bit, as the factory finish is a little orange-peely, and it shows otherwise.

Did you do relays? I have some good information on doing the wiring etc...

Thanks for the tip. I'll do the sanding.

I haven't installed the lights yet, but I have a Daniel Stern kit and will do the relays.

I have read his write-ups on how to do the wiring, but am always open to more data.

Ive used Paintscratch.com before and the paint matched perfectly. You could easily do 2 headlight rings with one large spray can and the clearcoat provided.

Are the trim rings chrome or primer?
If they are chrome, perhaps you could return them for the primered rings or sell the chrome rings to a RL member and get the primered rings.

Eric at Bumperplugs painted my primered H4 rings on the RSAmerica, Midnight Blue Metallic, perfect match as always.

How did you score the kit? I tried for months to get him to contact me back... you must be lucky. I just made my own, as he never replied to my inquiries.

I purchased quite some time ago.

Interestingly, I emailed him after the purchase to ask about rh/lh drive set ups to be sure I had purchased the correct parts and he seemed genuinely offended that I should think that he might sell me the wrong stuff!

While I felt bad that he was put off, it made me feel good about working with someone so dedicated to his task.

As I recall, it's a very complete kit. I'm looking forward to (finally!) getting it all installed.
