Question Starter Bushing?

I bought a rebuilt starter and found a small round metal bushing in the box with a note that reads it must be installed in the motor housing for the starter to work properly. I cannot figure out where it is supposed to go - anyone know off hand?

I got the same thing when I replaced my starter, the bushing supports the end of the starter shaft. I can see no way to replace that bushing, other than dropping the engine and tranny; therefore I just replaced the starter and kept the bushing in case the engine is coming out at a later time. No ill effects, everything is working as expected.
P.S. Put some grease on the end of the shaft.

Thanks. I have the engine and tranny out so does the bushing go on the tranny side?

If you have the tranny seperated from the engine, it should be easy to see where that bushing goes, it supports the end of the starter shaft. Just have a look, you cant' mis it.
