Default wheel refinishing

I am considering having the centers of my Fikse FM10s powdercoated black. Is this coating a good option or prone to flaking and scratching? DO you need to take the rim apart for the process, or can it be left intact? Also, has anyone repolished their own wheel outer lips? I'd love to see a pic of this combo if anyone has already done it.

Thanks
Matt

I am thinking about doing this too, except gold centers.
Every post I have found about disassembling the wheels says NOT to do it, but...
If a guy were to measure and correct the runout of each rim half as the bolts were tightened, and the bolts were tightened properly, I don't see the issue. But I am probably missing something. Also I would assume that the mating surface on the center should be masked so it doesn't have powder coat on it.

Not an expert on this, but I recall reading the temperature used to fuse the powder coating is above the annealing temperature for the aluminum alloy. I get excellent durability (10 years on a Mercedes I owned) using Wurth spray paint and Minwax Spar spray gloss urethane instead of the Wurth clear lacquer, which is wurthless.
