Default Electric Window Problem

My passenger side window is winding up and down OK but it is not automatically stopping at the correct height level with the quarter light. Also the glass seems to have shifted back about 5 mm but it can be pushed forward into the vertical runner groove. Anyone experienced this and fixed it? Advice sought - is it a DIY job?

Definitely a DIY job. Most likely the window has come loose from one end of the retaining channel. You can probably fix it with some adhesive if the channel is still in good condition. At worst you may need a new channel or channel rubber or both. I recently replaced mine with a used item from the wreckers as it was badly corroded. The whole job took about 45 minutes.

You need to remove the inner door panel and check the fit of the glass in the retaining channel. It is normally a press fit but an adhesive can be used if necessary to glue the glass to the channel rubber. In the event that the rubber has dislodged from the metal channel then you can glue the rubber back in place and with a pair of multigrips tighten the metal channel around the rubber. one you have the door panel off it's pretty self evident.

Thanks - but what is it controls the height the window goes to once the window has been correctly seated in the channel?

There is a scissor mechanism with small nylon wheels attached to the motor and the window channel has a lower set of grooves that accept the wheels . From what I could see it's purely the action of these two that either allows the window to raise or lower. either the scissor linkage or the window channel is not functioning correctly. There are no micro-switches or stops that determine the height.
