What if you overfill oil?

The secret is;
1. pull the dip and clean it (dry).
2. stick it back in.
3. pull it back out
4. where its wet is where the oil level is (note corresponding gauge level on dash)
5. repeat 1-4.
6. clean hands
7. go for a spirited drive

I believe I can now read it accurately from one side and simply ignore the "smudge" of oil along the other side.
Still, it takes a few dips to convince myself of the correct reading.
Fortunately, I feel that my dash gauge is accurate and though I check both often enough, I can see the dash gauge all of the time and this gives me a comfort level (no pun intended).

how to drain excess oil in about an hour for just $2
1) Go to a pet store and buy at least 6 feet (8 is better) of fish tank air line tubing. (6' cost $2)
2) lay out the tubing alongside the dipstick and mark on the tubing where the rubber stopper is.
3) Start the engine and let it run for a minute.
4) feed the tubing into the dipstick hole up to the mark that represents where the stopper/handle would be.
5) Suck on the other end of the tube to get a siphon going, making sure there is a container to catch the oil. Plastic milk jugs work great due to the narrow opening.
Since the oil is thicker than water and the air tube is so narrow, expect it to take at least 45 minutes per quart to siphon off. It will appear to be siphoning drop by drop.
