Looking for a good shop in long island. Have to get this ping fixed. Talking to a buddy and he thinks it could be detonation, but without hearing it no way o tell. I have no idea. Like a metal, popping noise only under harder accelaration. Motor was rebuilt over a year ago and is pretty stock except a ligtweight flywheel and chip

The Bosch KTS-301 (aka Hammer) will count knocks on a test drive.
If you can't find one, and fancy a drive, you could use mine. We could also meet somewhere between Warwick and LI.

If the distributor belt is broken you'll want to pull the igniter connection on that coil to prevent any stray voltage causing damage.
The secondary distributor (the one driven by the belt) is to the left, and below the primary. Follow the coil wire (center lead) back to the coil. In front of the coil is a connector with a wire-bale keeper. Disconnect that connector.
Or, pull the top on the secondary and you can check the belt. It's down at the bottom and visible with the cap off.

Prices seem to vary, but $100-200 seems typical. I do my own, but the one or two that I had done in the beginning were in that range; that's paying (extra) for the oil, too.
The prime motivator for changing your own oil is that overfills are common; even with experienced indy's

A guy in work that has a 968 recommended German Auto Repair Technicians in Amityville. He is a former Porsche mechanic, apparently has had his own shop for the past 15 years or so...........seems to be a one man operation. Had my alignment done there, he spent 3.5 hours on the car and only charged me around $220. A job well done also.
