Engine won't start
When I try and fire her up with the doors locked!!
It took me a very frustrating (and worrying) 5 minutes to work this out.
I've had the car 18 months and only just noticed this.
Could it be to do with my cobra alarm/immobiliser?
Could it have anything to do with me replacing the DME relay last week?
Or, is it just standard 964 functionality.
This isn't an issue as 99% of the time the doors are unlocked any way at start up!!
Just wanted to know if it's normal or not.
Cheers,
Kieran.

no it's not normal, no it's not DME-related, yes it could be a faulty alarm/imobiliser.

probably alarm, When an alarm was installed on my daughter's toyota the alarm manufacturer did not really take a good look at the wiring diagram, because their standard connections disabled the cruise control.

How are you locking the doors before firing her up? If you are just hitting the central locking button then that shouldn't affect the ignition.
With my alarm system the immobiliser kicks in if I haven't started the car within 30 seconds of unlocking. Then I have to click the remote with the key in the ignition to disable the immobiliser so that the car will fire on turning the key. However, I occasionally forget and hit the remote before the 30 seconds is up...this locks the car, puts the alarm and immobiliser on and therefore it won't start. It usually takes a few more seconds for it to dawn on me what I've done!

boxsey - i'm just locking her up by using the fob - basically thinking my 30 seconds are up - so i hit the fob to deactivate the immobiliser when in actual fact it hasn't kicked in yet.
so long as i know its not normal!!
