Default Oil change question

Hey guys,

I searched the threads before asking this question and couldn't find my exact answer, so here we go again....

I drained out the oil today. I needed a new drain plug for the thermostat housing (that part will arrive tomorrow), so the engine will be COLD when I begin to refill oil to the engine.

I normally do the oil change when the engine is warm, so this is a change in procedure for me.

Is the following refill procedure okay?

1. Add about 6 liters of oil
2. Start engine
3. While idling, add another 3 liters of oil
4. When thermostat opens, top off oil

My concern is on step #3, since I don't want to overfill the engine before the thermostat opens.

Any help would be appreciated.

No need to worry .
1st , you can't overfill the motor . You can only overfill the oil tank . The dry sump oil pump keeps oil from accumulating in the motor . When oil gets to the case the dry sump savaging pump picks it up and sends it to the oil tank .
2nd , the oil in the oil cooler lines and oil cooler are not in play during an oil change .
