Default Transmission Part Identiification

We have found 3 chunks of rubber which appear to be some sort of a plug from the transmission housing right above the shift linkage boot. Below is a picture with arrow pointing to the area where we fished out the pieces of rubber. Interested to know if anyone can identify the part # or if anyone could supply us with a picture of the part intact.

$ 5.75 301-15 # 3 (1) 964.421.251.00 cover

I've just replaced this plug myself.

I was a bit tight trying to get the new one in place without pulling the shift rod, but it is doable.

Thanks very much -- that's the part that I suspected but it's nice to get a confirmation from someone else. Our boot is also ripped so I'm hoping to be able to change it as well. I was thinking that I would put the transmission in second gear, remove the bolt in the shift rod and then move the transmission to first gear to create a space to slide the boot on and off. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

I don't see any reference in the Shop Manual, but that is just what I had planned to do before I managed to get the new plug in without disconnecting the shift rod.

Thanks for the reply - our boot is torn so I'm considering changing it by this method as well as putting in the new cover.
