Default Wheel spacers and understeer.

Daft question,

Would putting a couple of spacers on the rear(widening the track increase understeer if you do not but the same thickness spacers on the front?

Spacers on the rear make the track wider in back which increases understeer or decreases oversteer, however you want to look at it

I tried this (fitted 15 mm spacers) and experienced noticeable understeer. I ditched them soon after.

Thanks bill

I thought so but wasnt sure.
So I guess that if I put the same thickness spacers on the front of My C4 that should nullyify any adverse effects.

I put 14 mm spacers on the rear and 5 mm spacers on the front to correct tire rubbing (oil line and secondary muffler) at the track.

This did increase understeer (epsecially on fast sweepers) but it was easily corrected with anti-sway bar adjustments.

Its all relative and the net track width is only one of the things going on,
wider wheels w/ the same o/s also increase track both reduce understeer when at the front and reduce oversteer at the back

front spacers do the opposite of rear wheel spacers, spacers that are used to correct wheel o/s issues do nothing, wider wheels need different o/s from narrow spacers in front all change scrub radius, it all gets complicated

After recently dialing in more more negative camber, I tried adding 0.25" spacers in the front. The balance immediately went from understeer to oversteer. I was so amazed at how much difference it made, that I am going to start carrying 1/4" and 1/8" spacers as a tuning aid at the track. One more weapon in the arsenal.
