Default light weight wheel

I'm looking for the best OEM wheel for my DE,track 1991-964. Performance and weight is more important than looks. I do not understand much about wheels so please keep it simple. If possible, part #s will be best. Thanks

First you have to determine what size you want. Your options are 16", 17", 18" and possible 19".
the 16" will be the lightest along with the lightest tires.
I realize that there are some ultra lightweight larger wheels, but they are expensive.
You will add unsprung weight as you go bigger and will suffer a performance loss that may be offset by better grip.

I just went back to a 16" wheel tire combo from a 17" wheel combo. I can definitely feel the performance difference, besides getting a smoother ride.

I have a set of 16" Cup 1 for sale, if you're interested.

good luck with your search. there is a lot of great info out there.

Why OEM? There's a lot of lightweight aftermarket rims that fit the P car.

Looking for 17" or 18". Does not have to be OEM. Just trying not to get more confused.

Dymag
Forgeline
CCW
BBS
Volk

They make some lightweight rims....

The early 996 17ins wheels fit (although you might need small spacers _ I had them on my C2 but it was some time ago now). OEM wheels, they weigh about 19lbs IIRC and are cheap to buy used.

It will be for track use and not get much wash. So looks is not important. Need the best bang for the buck with weight factor considered.
On the 996 17", is there only 1 kind Porsche made? Thanks.

On the 996 17" is there only 1 kind? What's the weight of it? How much do you want for it? Thanks.

The 17" 996 Turbo twists I'm running now, weigh less than the 16" Design 90's I use for my winter tires.

I like the rims, I'm not selling. Sorry for misleading. 996 cars have a lot of different rim designs/options that fit other Porsches.

adding something

for stock wheels - check out
http://www.wheelenhancement.com/index.php?t=Wheels

also the 16" Cup 1 wheel is actually called the C2 5 Spoke not cup (porsche speak as well as on the site) it is lighter but the generally heavier tire makes that a moot point.

the Flat Dish 16" is the only Forged 964 wheel (outside of the 964 C4 Lw Mg wheel i believe) that was offered for the 964. it's a nice wheel actually.

Boxster and cayman wheels can fit as well (986 is direct, 987 call them..) so that opens up your choices. figure out what you want and if you can deal with used look on ebay/ etc for a used set (perfect for the track)
my 2 cents....
