Default TIPTRONICS

Generally speaking how are the Tiptronics holding up on the 964?
Is this the same transmission that would be used on the 993's
Small problen here in the homestead, wife wants to use the Porsche (we have a 2000 S/Y Boxster) but although she "can" drive a manual, she refuses...
So, in Justifying a "change" perhaps a Tip would be the deciding factor...
never did like the "sound" of the waterpumpers anyway...
Thanks

Well, my Tiptronic has over 180K miles on it. So, yes they seem to be very bulletproof.

Drawbacks, resale value, only 4 gears.

Pluses, good in traffic.

I've started to DE mine, and the Tip costs me a couple of seconds per lap, as the gearing is not close enough.

May be easier to get a manual and find a new wife!

No troubles to date! I'm closing in on 100K and also DE it on a regular basis. At someplace like Watkins Glen, I can hang with a 964 RS in my run group lap after lap. (I do have some engine adders though)

You can't kill one w/a sledge hammer!!! Bullet proof...and as you can't over-rev the engine...a potentially bevy of longevity!

I loved my tip...

I think the better question is who lets their wife drive the 964?

Tip is bulletproof. 160,000 miles on my '91 C-2 when I sold it. Interesting trivia point...I hadn't used the car for a while...battery low...needed a jump start...car started...took off in "drive" mode...WOULDN'T SHIFT to 2nd!! Turned around...back home...took "family" car. Charged C-2 overnight...shifted perfectly! Low battery affects shifting of tip.
