Monday Morning
So I had a photo session with my wife Saturday night, but took the car out a few times over the weekend to run errands with Meg. She loves Porsche!!! Other than that, not much going on. Had Stacey's family over for Easter dinner. that was about it.
Any of you spend quality time with the Porsche(s)?
Lonnie, I know you're just sitting there hitting refresh on your browser waiting for the post thinking "well where is he already, dammit?"

(Me? ... naaaah.)
Girlfriend & I went out in the (red) car, too.
Visited a 12 ft.-high, roadside, duck's head topiary. (Picture this evening.)
Went there, came back, fast.
She's a 5'4" former gymnast... so she fits the Recaro's much better than me.
(Hell, till this weekend, I didn't even know that a 'topiary' had a name beyond, "fancy-cut bush". My girlfriend, though -- she's book-learned, so clues me in.)
Washed the car Sunday afternoon. It now awaits claying, polishing, and waxing.
Also some refurbishment tidbits mending their way through the shipping channels even as I type this...

I didnt do any Porsche work after messing with mine the previous 2 weekends. I went out to my property and changed the oil on my 2 tractors then put on the straw hat and did some bush hogging and moved a couple trees out of the way that fell over last hurricane season. The river is so low from our drought this winter i was able to mow in all my ditches and along the river bank without getting stuck in the mud. Its hard pulling a full size #3500 tractor out of deep mud!

Touched up some road rash on the front, used Dr. Colorchip which worked fairly well.
Had the car up on the new lift, so took the Fabspeed exhaust tip off one side (dual exhaust) and fabricated a baffle to quiet it a little for the daily drive. It will come out easily for DE events.

No work on the Porsches this weekend. My girlfriend and I took an interesting drive Friday night. We enjoyed out "lets see where this road goes" trip last weekend, we did another Friday night. We ended up stopping for dinner in a little town. It was a very good evening.
Saturday was chores and errands. Sunday was lunch and dinner with her parents at my house. Her father is a big golf enthusiast, so we ended up watching 6 hours of golf. I would have rather spent time in the garage but gotta be sociable.

Is this Monday? It's feeling a little like, Ground Hog day! It was 31 degrees at our local airport this morning, where's Spring? On a better note, I crew and this weekend was our first time out. The rules are; the water must be 50 degrees or no rowing. We did row. Here's a pic of the ladies group' first time out.

I started what was going to be a simple plugs/wires/caps/valve adjust thing... but it went deeper, and I am not sure when it is going to end.
I got the car up, removed the exhaust baffles etc, and prepared for a plug wire change. I was also concerned about a rattle at startup, so I bought the kit for the chain tensioners. (cue music here)...
I removed the engine tin, and was a bit dismayed at their condition too. They were rustier and more dented than I would like, so a full-on grind, sand, prep and paint project was launched... I used POR-15, then etching primer then black. I then decided that black was too .... black... so I went with machine gray. They look all purdy, but sill aren't perfect.
In pulling the tin, I ended up pulling the distributor, and will likely do the belt "while it's out".
The killer is the right timing chain cover. Half the fasteners are behind the A/C bracket. Ruh ROH.. That means blocking the engine up, and removing the rear mountings. (So I discovered my engine mounts are shot, too...) and the AC bracket doesn't just pop off either. I was faced with the choice of removing all the studs, OR taking off the crank pulley. Taking out the studs was 1.5 hours right there. This sort of thing certainly adds up with the hours. My wife asked me "So what's so catastrophically wrong with your engine that you have to do all this?".... hee. Nothing honey, this is all Preventative...
It's going to be a while before I get to drive it, as all the "While you're in there's" are adding up. Valve adjustment tonight... whee!

Man- I was hoping to see some pictures, not a horror story. Good thing it's just preventative. Will keep you from being down longer later on. One of these days I'd love to pull the engine and "while you have it out" a few things

You sound like what i just went thru. I needed to fix the fan which became a plug dist cap replacements and cleaning up of 18 years of gunk around the engine and some powder coating. The PO had done a reseal on the engine 6 years ago before I bought it so things came off reasonably easy. Now I need to figure out where the hand full of bolts go that were left over

Took the car out for a spin on the mountain twisties before easter lunch. It turned out to be less than a relaxing drive however, as a biker directly in front of me wiped out (about to pass the corvette in front of him) and had to airlifted to hospital. I felt pretty helpless but made him a pillow, talked to him (after he regained consciousness) kept him from moving and stayed until the paramedics arrived. It was a reminder of how quickly life's circumstances can change...I felt very grateful last night as I tucked into my easter dinner.

Howard, being a former rider, I thank you for your actions. Most people would chose to not get involved. I hope his injuries aren't life-threatening.
Hopefully the next time you take that road there aren't ghosts hanging around.
