Wheel Upsizing
Any experiences herein on moving up to an 18 inch rim for their 964s?
A friend is considering the move. I believe there are 17s on the car now. I recall that the 996 suspensions were getting trashed during testing when they moved to 19s from 18s on those cars. Can we expect similar issues?

There is a TSB from Porsche implicitly saying that it's not a good idea. It's been posted here several times.
There are some people who've fitted larger wheels and have suffered no damage, while others have. So I guess use at your own risk.

Three Wheelin'
Lots of 964s with 18" wheels. Not a problem as far as I can see, but you do get a rougher ride and more pull on the steering. There are many 18" wheels that don't need spaces, either. 265s on the rear look pretty good.

Thanks, Rennlisters! I know that when Porsche AG designed the 997 they were planning to reuse the 996 suspension (manufacturing economy of scale) but soon discovered during road and track testing of the 997's with 996 suspensions and 19 inch rims were literally tearing the suspensions to pieces. They were forced to go in and beef up every component. I figured that the move from 16-17 to an 18 on the tough 964s wouldn't be that far a stretch. Thanks for the real life feedback. May have to find the 993 brace for the S.R.
