Default Lowering a C4: A Basic Question- H&R Colors

Thanks for your replies to my post of last week but I have another basic question:

What is the difference between H&R "greens" and "reds" coils? I just called H&R and they have not a clue what these color designations mean!

Thanks,
Don

Greens are the softer ones. Red are stiffer. There is a table that describes the differences. Let me see if I can find it.

Edit: Found it - https://rennlist.com/forums/964-foru...son-chart.html

H&R greens are the springs for the c2's and c4's. Reds are the springs for the turbo's, with a little more spring rate. They will both work in your car. I have the "reds" and Koni's, and it's a pretty good set up for mostly road, and occasional track.

I've got Reds and Bilstein HDs on my 91 C4 street car and like them a lot. I recently purchased a 96 with the M030 springs and Bilsteins and it feels too soft. It's really a matter of preference and what you will be doing with the car.

I own a 90 C4 with bilsteins HD and greens, i've read your post and use the search tool and i'm not sure at all; is it possible to install the 29834 turbo H&R reds in my 90 C4?

Thanks.

The greens are the same in 89-90 and 90-94 cars. The diference are in the shocks, rear are diferent, but the springs perhaps was the same.

Get Red if U'r going to track and auto X. But there is a limited height adjustment with the front Bilstein without modification.

I have found the same thing. I finally made up my mind what to buy, only to find that H&R does not seem to currently make "green" or "red" springs. SHOX.com also does not sell H&R "greens". H&R makes a sport spring - PN 29813 - that matches the lowering amounts and spring rates posted on this forum for H&R greens, but they appear to be black. They also make a turbo version - PN 29834. Haven't found or searched for more info on them. Surprisingly, I cannot find the spring rates for either of these springs on the H&R website, only on distributor websites. Are the green and red references outdated but hanging around because they are historically recognized?

In the past, the H&R lowering springs for C2/C4's were painted green. The lowering springs for turbos were painted red. The Rennlist community has adopted those colors to describe which springs someone has. I purchased a set of H&R greens about in 2000 for my C4 and another set for my C2 in 2008. Both are painted green. If H&R has changed their paint color, that's news to me.

Thanks, Rob. That makes sense to me. I did get some response on the turbo springs as being "reds", but no correlation between "green" and the current sport version from either H&R or distributors. The pictures and references for the sport springs seem to indicate they are black. At any rate, I am proceeding with purchase of a set of HD's and H&R sport/greens. So, I guess I will know for sure when they show up. Again, thanks for your help.

Do you say that because of the front differential weight? I've got a set of greens I'm planning to put on my '89.

I may auto-x it some more, but I do not want to compromise daily driving performance 99% of the time for track performance 1% of the time.
