Default radio ga ga,,(wiring nightmares)

Hi,

I bought my 964 with a none working radio, so I knew I would have fun trying to get it working again as the gremlins have been messing around in there.
I removed the set and found a real bunch of wires all over the place and not wired to my standards so can I please pester you all again and ask some stupid questions.

I need the colour codeing for all four speakers and the main power cables etc as its not good what the previous owner has done.
I can see the ariel and a black cable loomed together which is the power for the ariel.
Then there is three others coming from a seperate loom, and then the rats nest of speaker cables to sort out.

Thanks for your help in advance Gaz

ps, it will end up on fire if I don't rectify the previous owners D I Y' ING

Default radio wires colour(color) codeing

Thanks for that snippet of information, but please someone on here must be a wiring guru,,,
I KNOW HOW TO FIND A PERMANANET AND SWITCHED LIVE,but please give me the function of the wires as I have explained as I want to do a quality job myself and not a botched attempt like the previous owner.

Many thanks in advance Gaz

ps, I have searched and the 964 companion doesn't give that info.

I no longer seem to have the link, but some guy on the PelicanParts forums posted a "decoder" for the radio wires. You may want to try searching over there.

Default radio,,,,gone ga ga,,,,

Thanks for that info will search pelican forums,,

I thought loads of people on here would have had radio problems,as most 964's
have changed hands several times and I haven't seen many cars with tape decks in them.

Thanks for any info Gaz

Yes, but much of the time new radios plug straight into the vehicle's wiring harness with a pre-made adapter, and many do not have to worry about wiring unless somebody attempted to wire a radio up by hand in the past, which is what I ran into when putting a radio in my car...and then I found this:

I think that may be what you are looking for.

Default all good in the end.

Hi,

Thanks for that link, its the info I needed as the previous owner had fitted the euro plug as its known ,ie the block that plugs into the loom, but I will remove his crimps and re-solder all the electrical joints and double take his wiring connections as its not neat enough for me.

Thanks everyone for all your help Gaz,
