Hi there,

I'm in the process of replacing my broken sunroof cables and perished seals. I've removed both guide channels and cleaned everything. During reassembly, should I grease the sunroof cables and the channels that the sliders move in? I've read the Pelican article regarding sunroof repairs and it doesn't recommend using any grease. My OPC thinks the opposite and grease must be used. I must admit the whole mechanism feels a little "dry" without grease.

If indeed you guys do recommend using grease, what type do you suggest.

Take below for what its worth:

I removed the felt that is inter-twined around the cable (per an article somewhere) and I did not use grease. It worked great for about 2 months. Now my sunroof sticks horribly to the point the motor wont open/close properly. I have to use the emergency hand crank in the tool kit.

I would love to hear opinions on this too.

It describes un-twining the felt from the new cable in the Pelican parts article. Interestingly it says for pre 89 cars, Porsche have stopped making the sunroof cable and a 964 cable has to be adapted, as it wont fit in the slot. Great I thought, Mine is a 964, so should not require any modification. Wrong! The slider wouldn't fit into the slot without extensive filing of the metal slider. I too had to remove the felt, so the cable runs smoothly. Very strange.
