High Level Brake Light Removal
All,
My Euro RS has a high level brake light fitted which is good for safety but not good in terms of the lightweight ethos - hence it is coming off!
It looks to be secured by some sort of adhesive fixing onto the rear screen itself and presumably must have a brake light feed also - any idea if it will leave any "scars" on the car when I remove it?
There appears to be a sort of rubber seal along the edge where it meets the roof.
Thanks,
Kevin.

I would seriously consider keeping it where it is. You won't lose much weight by removing it and are only increasing your chances of being rear-ended by another driver. The third brake light is there for a reason

Kevin,
The brake light spoiler on your car is mounted on to metal brackets which are glued on to the rear screen. I used something like the glass adhesive used for the interior mirror to mount mine so I'd be inclined to chat to a windscreen company to see if they could remove them.
The wiring feed to the light is usually through the windscreen rubber so there will be a hole - usually about a third to a quarter of the way across from the right hand side. The rubber seal is just part of the spoiler design and is attached to the main spoiler. The cover just clips off to reveal the main part of the spoiler and the light unit. If you decide against removing it the cover just clips back on.
Regards
Dave.
BTW, I think it looks better on and, as Ilko says, it's MUCH safer.

Dave/Iiko,
Thanks for the replies, my real bugbear is the techart spoiler which is being replaced by 9m by a standard unit next week. I was thinking about taking off the brake light at the same time.
My car is mainly used on track although I do also drive it to and from various UK circuits so your point is valid.
I think I will get the std rear spoiler on and then see how it looks, Dave do you have a piccy of your car with it fitted that I could have a look at?
Thanks again, been away from here for a coupla years, good to be back!

Hi Kevin - car's looking nice - cant believe I've not yet managed to see it for real.
Anyway, I'd definitely lose the Techart sopoiler, but keep the 3rd brake light. 964s don't exactly have the most notieable brake lights, being both small and very low by modern standards. Def keep the brake light.
Have you still got the CSL by the way?

Hi Rob,
Nice to hear from you - cant believe i havent yet seen the GT3 either!
Saw John at Oulton last week briefly so maybe if he sets up a NW run we may get to see each other.
As regards the CSL I sold it last year, it developed a couple of expensive looking oil leaks and I had the chance to sell it back into the trade losing only a couple of £k so I did - absolutely loved it though ;-(
Now driving a Passat but looking for a weekend hooner to keep the km off the RS which is not much good on "normal" UK roads due to the 18" speedlines and hard track setup (and no I cant afford John's car as well as the RS ;-)
Hope to see you soon,
Kevin.

I haven't got much that will be meaningful - just a few of the positioning (as attached). Kevin (warmfuzzies) has a much more useful write up on his web site at http://www.964kevin.homecall.co.uk/ - look under 3rd brake light.
Regards
Dave
