Thanks to Steve for the quick turnaround on my new to me 92 C2 dual distributor belt replacement. I advised my indy (Euroquipe, St. Chas, IL) of Steve's service and charges which he felt were quite reasonble in light of the time involved if he were to do it. 9 days from shipping to picking the car back up--feel much relieved as belt was "worn" (68k miles) even with the vent kit and would unlikely have made it to 100k.

Great "pre-emptive" move to replace the distributor belt. My C2 had 72k on the clock and the belt broke at the track. It is costing me $6K for the repairs. I encourage all 964 (and 993) owners to learn from my poor maintainance....replace your belt every 50K miles.

Your car is partially vented, that is to say, your left rear tail light is vented out with surgical tubing to the heater pipe. You'll see the tubing if you open the motor and look to your left. The additional tube runs from the side of the distributor, into a tee connection that combines your existing tube with the one from the distributor into the nipple that exists in your heater pipe. It simply allows the build up of (ozone I think), to vent out. This build up in the distributor deteriorates your dist. drive belt more quickly, if it is not vented.

And a link to replacing it... on a 993, but you get the idea:

Another option is Marc Cohen in Atlanta - he performs a complete rebuild for $150 plus shipping. A friend of mine has used him twice for 993 distributors and was very pleased with the prompt turn-around.
